So far we have been ranked as high as 2 in Street and Smith's and you can order the cover to the left for $6.99 if you do not receive it in your area. They state that the South Florida game is a game to watch to see if we avenge our last season loss or see our national hopes end early. The best quote is "When Rich Rodriguez turned down the Alabama coaching job, one of his reasons had to be the wealth of talent he has returning to Morgantown. With a quarterback like Patrick White and a running back like Steve Slaton, among with another favorable schedule, the Mountaineers look like a prime candidate to make a national-championship run." I couldn't agree more with that statement. Sine we are playing Louisville in Morgantown and we have such a great fan base hopefully that will be the only close game.
Sporting News has us ranked as 4 in the pre season polls and stae that the South Florida game is the "best chance to be upset". Hope not. That Rutgers will be "toughest game" and the Louisville is a "must win." I really believe that if the team stays healthy and works hard they will go undefeated this year. They also have Steve Slaton listed in their Heisman watch.
Althlon has them ranked the lowest in the pre season at 5. They are saying that is we make it to October without a loss look for us to contend for a Big East and, possibly, a national title.
So far these are the only pre season magazines I have gotten to see haw we far in the polls.

West Virginia: With two Heisman candidates (Steve
Slaton and Patrick White), this might be the nation's most explosive offense. The difference between Big East title and national title is the defense. Rich Rodriguez has to quit winning shootouts. "
As of today there will be 5 games shown on ESPN or ESPN2. Marshall, Maryland, South Florida, Louisville and Pitt.
